While working alongside his long-time friend and colleague in building a hospital for the residents of a Buenos Aries shantytown, a troubled priest finds solace in a young, atheist social worker。物語は「監察医朝顔」のラストの翌年春から幕を開け、朝顔が母の遺体を探しに1人で東北を訪れたことによって新たな物語が紡がれていく。彼女が東日本大震災と母の死に深く向き合うさまや、前作では描けなかった東日本大震災以外の大規模災害にも相対する姿が切り取られる。。
