故事发生在清乾隆青少年时期。雍正帝（寇振海 饰）自感时日无多，组织幕僚们考査众皇子，生性坦诚的四阿哥弘历（袁弘 饰）把在上书房所学知识全盘端出，不料，他的直言能谏惹怒了雍正，而善于察言观色的三阿哥（史林 饰）通过走感情路线赢得了父皇的喜欢。本来想立弘历为储的雍正态度上发生了改变，加之弘历犯错，储位岌岌可危。三阿哥和五阿哥（艾东 饰）为谋取储位，明里暗里对弘历使了不少诡计，宫中对储位的争夺日渐白热化，弘历被迫两次离开上书房。 性情正直刚毅的弘历并没有因此改变人性中最基本的道德良知，仍坚持坦诚、仁厚的做人处事理念，最终赢得了父皇和众臣的叹服......。Someone downloads an app on your phone behind your back.
