The film tells the story of three people for a year: a son (Magimel) diagnosed with cancer, a mother (Deneuve) suffering from helplessness and a doctor (Cécile de France) to do her job: One year and four seasons for these three characters to deal with the disease, to tame it, and to understand what it means to die while alive.。罗起鹏生于有钱家庭，与父亲关系疏离，所以性格反叛，为人好打不平，常常参加拳击比赛。一天，因意外认识了酒廊唱歌的心兰，两人互生情素。他们感情发展迅速，起鹏不理会父亲反对与心兰结緍，离开父亲，自力更生。但起鹏工作并不顺利，经济出现困难，心兰为了帮保家计，想回酒廊唱歌，起鹏更因此与心兰争执……。
