The story takes us back to 1889, in the wake of primary school teacher Louise Violet who is sent to a village in the French countryside to enforce Republic schooling (which is free, compulsory and secular). It’s a mission which secures her unpopularity, among children and parents alike…。When Joan’s husband dies, she is shocked to discover he had invented an elixir which makes the drinker look young again.
