天府之国四川成都，幸福安逸的生活与小人物柳东（张国立饰）全然无关。他是一间不景气的汽修厂工人，工厂开不出工资，生活举步维艰。老婆李圆圆倒是美若天仙，一如日本影星栗原小卷，但老婆红杏出墙，另攀高枝。倒霉的柳东为维权意外害死报贩，心怀不忍的他帮助报贩的老婆洪雨（赵涛饰），彼此心底却慢慢产生好感，无奈另有强势富有的高明（张嘉译饰）与之竞争。汽修厂不复存在，柳东卖皮鞋的时候与一名乞丐女孩结下不解之缘，阴差阳错成了对方的父亲，且也险些摊上遗弃亲生子女的罪名。似乎天下所有的倒霉事和磨难都找上门来，被迫成为好人的柳东就这样一步一个脚印，按照“生下来，活下去”的信念坎坷前行…… 本片已故作家乔瑜的同名长篇小说改编。。Aels, a rich and tempermental woman from the North, moves to Hamburg.
